San Francisco Music Club: Love & Freedom

It was a bit of a surprise for me when I got this promo because I saw a familiar face on the cover. Indeed, I got a DVD series from Jimmy Dillon; actually a course on acoustic guitar. I liked the way he was teaching and his style. He even included a couple of his own compositions in there.

San Francisco Music Club includes seven members such as Lorin Rowan who shares vocals and guitar with Jimmy; Matt Willis on drums; Michael Peloquin (sax & harmonica); a brass section of Mr. Peloguin, Jeff Lewis and Mike Rinta as well as guess vocalists Sakai and Maddie Sifantus. Additional artists joined to add their own touch too.

So what do we find on this Californian 12 tracks/ 65 minutes + release? Well a bunch of easy going and very melodic compositions. This is very easy listening material that contains lots of nice guitar parts and sweet melodious moments. Needless to say a certain southern vibe is omnipresent but… I just said it! Some songs have a more dancing styles, other are ambient, rockier etc…Well the reggae/danceable one I could have done without…but I'm not a dancing fool . Here are some of my favorites. "4 Winds" has nice acoustic riffs, a pop& catchy style that reminds me of "Under the Boardwalk". "Ponchatrain" comes with harmonica and banjo. The next track, "Perfection" has also harmonica and catchy parts in the chorus; classical guitars, Hammond Organ as well as an upbeat tempo. Closing track is actually an acoustic version of song #3, "Love Can Be" but with more guitar and maybe even some harp but, I'm not certain here. Those of you that might have a liking for Reggae and dancing stuff I would direct you to songs like: "Crazy Lovesick Blues", Revolutionary Man – Bob Marley Tribute", "You've Got that Lovin' Feelin' " ( yeah you know that song right?) and the title track. For something more atmospheric, switch to "Istanbul".

All in all not a masterpiece as such, but Love and Freedom has good guitar parts and nice melodies.
