Vreid: Welcome to Farewell

Impressing me when they toured with Paradise Lost last year, Vreid bring an album of dark heavy atmosphere, which is exactly what you'd expect from this Norwegian contingent. The 6th album is a lesson in Black Metal roots with a Classic Rock twist, Sture's demonic vocals resonate with enough aggression that the lyrics are still decipherable. 'Way Of The Serpent' and 'The Reap' encompass some excellent twisting guitars, while the Classic Rock riffs of 'The Devils Hand' almost transport you to Motörhead territory. This is a truly enjoyable listening experience, the guitar flurries and huge fat Classic riffs stay with you throughout, the vintage theme brought up to date. What is an album without a Classic cover, its haunting image in an almost penciled black & white only hint at the dark pleasures within.

Vreid have produced one of their most accessible albums to date without compromising any integrity, a pure riff –fuelled, metal machine of an album encased in its own dark atmosphere.
