Diamond Dawn: Overdrive

Diamond Dawn are yet another band out of Gothenburg. This time rather than sleazy metal we find ourselves in melodic rock territory as can immediately be heard with the almost Giuffria-like keyboards at the very beginning of the record. The track in question, "Into Overdrive", then morphs into classic AOR with clichéd lyrics about, "cold, cold sweat," and is unquestionably well-executed and very much what one would expect to hear from a band on Frontiers Records.

"In the heat of the city at night," begins "Take Me Higher" and perhaps these lyrical snippets highlight the strengths and weaknesses of Overdrive. The band are also, "on fire tonight", on this one so we can probably all decide already whether or not this record will float our boat. I like all things melodic/AOR so I quite like this and will probably keep it on my generic mp3 device for some time but if you're looking for anything challenging you're probably looking in the wrong place. Fluffy but fun would be my concise report.
