Hearse: Armageddon, Mon Amour

The guitars alternate between the sting and slap of a northernmost Norwegian night and the warm boogie rock of the '70s. It's like razor burn followed by a helping of moist chocolate cake, a laceration followed by a cold brewski, a good hard slap followed by a warm embrace. By golly, it's good. High as the traditional Swedish metal sounds makes the fur on the back of my neck stand (think Gothenburg schtuff), this steps outside those boundaries a bit to give the listener a glimpse of something so utterly freakin' cool you can't help but want to race over to the neighbor's door, break it down and shove "Turncoat," "Tools" or the title track into their ears. "Cambodia" also kicks much low carb bun, sounding as it does like Judas Priest with Halford dripping the flesh of a freshly killed animal from his mouth. (Irony? It's a Kim Wilde toon!) Armageddon, Mon Amour has a few flaws––couplea of the toons poot out toward the end––but on the whole this little sunavagun is going to be on ye olde turntable for months to come. Yee-haw. Thanks, guys.
