Neko Nine: Summer is You

Sometimes even the most cynical and jaded of us (and that definitely includes me) can be surprised and Neko Nine's Summer is You surprised me. I was actively not looking forward to listening to, "a band from Yaroslavl, Russia. Music by Neko Nine combines post-metal, post-rock, hardcore, rock-ambient, electronic(sic)." What this record is without a doubt is a thoroughly well-constructed trip through sonic landscape that allows one's mind to wander to different places. It is one of those albums where the listener can make up their own narrative and conjour up their own visions.

When the band crank it up as they do on "Supernova" it still works as they don't rock out without a purpose and get all noodly for the sake of it. There's a lilting, quaint quality to Neko Nine's music that is quite ethereal, like Tangerine Dream, who operate at a different end of the instrumental spectrum, and this is highly recommended.
