Vandroya: One

This release from Brazilian band Vandroya will not just appeal to fans of power metal but also progressive metal bands like Adagio and Symphony X . Having formed in 2001 and then released an EP back in 2005 called Within Shadows, now One is the title of their excellent full length debut .

While track seven "Change The Tide" does include male vocals, the first thing I noticed was that Vandroya have a female vocalist Daisa Munhoz (Soulspell) and she has a very appealing voice and a range that suits their vibrant kind of metal music. I should add that after hearing this album Vandroya really is a group with an all talented line-up that know how to combine these skills to make compelling songs.

Vandroya switch from those more straightforward power metal speed blasters like "The Last Free Land" to the more technical of metal numbers such as "No Oblivion For Eternity" and "Anthem (For The Sun)" where you can hear inspiration from other heavy progressive bands. One of the best songs on One is "Solar Night" which has a Symphony X structured kind of vibe and it sounds impressive as the track builds and that power increases, there are also cultural musical influences to be heard as on "Within Shadows" which has some colourful surprises.

Enthralling progressive/power metal is something that all the fans want to hear, and well you can find just that on One, a great new album from the Brazilian band Vandroya. As 2012 draws to a close and just when I thought I had heard this years best then One comes along and what a welcome album it is, though it probably doesn't count as I believe that this album is not actually going to be released in most places till early 2013.
