Rocka Rollas: Conquer
80's Swedish power/speed metal band Rocka Rollas have released an enjoyable EP which they called Conquer. Conquer is the work of just two members and listed as appearing on the four tracks are the two Rocka Rollas; Ced who is very busy doing an admirable job as he handles all instruments which would be great to see him duplicate live, and Joe Liszt, from the group Riptide, is the vocalist.
Conquer has all the common European speed metal components, from epic artwork of a mighty warrior riding into action ready to kick some serious butt with matching songs about tales of grand battles, to frantic riffs backed by full throttle kick drums and topped off with that screaming epic solo work. And of course then there are the soaring vocals and compulsory sing along choruses, making the formula complete.
Opener "Bloodbath" shows Rocka Rollas are ready for full flight with their guitars unleashing a brisk onslaught and it is that guitar work throughout which is the standout on this release. Then moving onto the title track "Conquer" which is also the slowest of those on offer and the longest at over eight minutes. Rocka Rollas take off again with "Riding The Metal Storm" and next to the finale and Rocka Rollas have chosen to perform a cool soaring instrumental "Steelwheeler", and seriously, you can't have an album like this without the mighty "steel" getting a mention.
The band with a name most similar to the Judas Priest song have presented us with a fine though brief sample of what they are about on Conquer. Also a full length album is in the works for a future release next year so these speed metal rockers are all set to keep on rolling.
Track list:
1. Bloodbath
2. Conquer
3. Riding the Metal Storm
4. Steelwheeler (Instrumental)
