Danger Zone: Undying

Melodic hard rockers Danger Zone from Italy have a long history dating back to the mid-80's when they headed across the Atlantic to work on what was to be their debut album, Line of Fire. After years of complicated legal battles their dreams were shattered and the release never happened until they regained control of the recordings and it was belatedly issued in 2010. Now reformed and rejuvenated they have signed to Avenue of Allies for this latest release, Undying, which offers a crisp and appealing slice of retro-hard rock.

Vocalist Giacomo Gigantelli has a rough and raspy delivery, bringing to mind the Krokus frontman Marc Storace, that suits the up-tempo energy and combines perfectly with the sharp riffs and solos that are well executed by Roberto Priori. The obligatory mid-tempo mood changer is the sentimental power ballad 'Falling Up' that strikes just the right balance between cheese and class with the wistful acoustic guitars and layers of keyboards complementing each other. Elsewhere the bass rumble and galloping thunder of 'More Heaven Than Hell' and the catchy hooks of 'Undying' and 'Love Still Finds A Way' are some of the stronger moments amongst the CD's twelve songs. Danger Zone may not have realised their potential all those years ago but it is good to see them getting a second chance and whilst the music scene now is much changed there will always be an audience for this blend of power, hooks and melody amongst the hard rock crowd.
