Twisted Sister: A Twisted Xmas - Live In Las Vegas

They said it shouldn't be done, that it was a career ending move and would make them a laughing stock. But when did Twisted F@#cking Sister ever care what anybody thought about them?? Not then and not now, so some five years after the Sister sent us their Christmas greetings in the shape of A Twisted Christmas, we get a 2009 Las Vegas show (which was originally available as part of the five DVD box set Bars To The Stars, released last year) mixing classic Twisted Sister numbers with some rib crackingly funny holiday tunes done all Sistery style and cunningly title A Twisted Xmas!

Yeah, I know, it's all a bit silly. Neither is it very metal. But a quick run through the riff romping "White Christmas", where the giggle in singer Dee Snider's voice becomes infectious, or the Ramones like "Deck The Halls", replete with gang backing vocals and a threatening guitar assault of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" segued into the middle of it, and there's no denying that you'll wish you'd been in Las Vegas to sing silly songs, with unselfconsciously silly people. Then factor in a fantastic smack of "Come All Ye Faithful" to the tune of the greatest Twisted track of all time "We're Not Gonna Take It" and a lurid, tasteless rewording of "12 Days Of Christmas", where some of the delights served up include "A Stautuuuue Of Ozzzeeeee", "Two Pairs of Spandex Pants", "Eight Pentograms" and of course, everyone's favourite, "Five Stooo-oooo-oooo-len rings"! and the tongue in cheekness of it all becomes truly irresistible. I mean is there another band anywhere on the planet who would even attempt to squeeze the Twisted Sister anthem "Burn In Hell" between "Come All Ye Faithful" and "Silver Bells"? Obviously not!

To add to the occasion and to keep the too serious for themselves cynics happy, almost every second song is a standard Sister sucker-punch, with excellent versions of "Shoot 'Em Down", "You Can't Stop Rock N' Roll", "I Wanna Rock" and a proper version of "We're Not Gonna Take It" jostling merrily, a boozy leering glint in their eye, under the mistletoe. Making for a Christmas album that'll keep the kids happy, make your friends laugh and scare the living bejesus out of your Grandma! And that's without buying the DVD version where you could show her Dee Snider dressed as Snider Claus!

Minus half a star if you are a holiday scrooge, but add a half if you're full of holiday spirits - such as vodka, gin, or Jack Daniels......hic! Meerry Crishtmash everbody!
