Tausig, Jay: Leo: Majesty of the Sun

"The Trip Around the Sun", from Jay Tausig continues with Leo: Majesty of the Sun. This time the album opens with beautiful long winded flute, soft piano and Tausig's wife, Rhi Jenerate's warm, "Greetings from the sun", on "Leo Transmission". Remy Lindsey's poetry and Jenerate's spoken word help welcome, relax and prepare you for the vibes which are to come.

Then the over 30 minute opening to Leo begins with Tausig playing all instruments on the epic "Majesty of the Sun (part 1)". It is an epic guitar and keyboard journey of sound. The guitar welcomes you onto the path towards the sun. Keith Waye's poem draws you further into the realm of Leo. The keys surround, giving comfort and immersing your ears in cool meditational vibes. Then, Tausig unleashes the magic of the electric lead as the bass supports in stride. The drums and echoing keyboards surround the soundscape and keep the mystery evolving. Later the lead guitar blasts beyond the slow progression and lifts like a rocket taking the listener with him into the sounds of space.

"Solar Flares" is a glittering compliment to the epic that precedes it. The warm piano, keyboards, and slow lead guitar permeates the surroundings. You are left enthralled with this over 4 minute shimmering piece of music as a prize.

Bob Madsen's rhythm samples help add variation to the sound as Tausig's keyboard takes "P.R.I.D.E." through another fantastic space journey.

Thom Worldpoet provides voice and poem for "Majesty of the Sun (part 2)". This over 12 minute masterpiece of bass, drums, percussion and loud, powerful lead guitar will rock you after the last track. The dreamy keys are also back painting their space trajectory.

Rhi Jenerate, Summer Yarrow, and Victoria LaFont's vocals and poetry provide ample distance between the "Three Aspects of the Lioness". Piano surrounds their beautiful poetic voices as they describe each aspect. Magical keys and voices blending together to offer volumes of sound and advice.

Tom Lescher provides vocals on the closing track "Majesty of the Sun (part 3)". This over 13 minute song will take you back to some early Alan Parsons at the opening with its cool keyboard rhythms. Then the weaving electric lead guitar enters the soundscape to electrify the surroundings. The bass and drums provide that funky 70s sound most of us can remember so well. But it is the majesty of the electric lead guitar which you will take away from this encounter. If you listen carefully towards the end, you may even wander back to those hallways filled with Hackett's echo guitar on side two of the "Lamb".

Ed Unitsky summons all of the power, roar and pride, as well as the historical context, of the essence of the lion with his art. Ed's art adds to the multitude of gifts received from purchasing this entire 12 CD set…when available.

Yet another stellar display from Jay Tausig. How do you keep up this excellence? Surely a book about the experience will follow to provide the answers.
