Nightwish: Imaginarium by Nightwish- The Score

In late 2011 and to much deserved praise Nightwish released Imaginarium, and now twelve months later we have the official soundtrack version for the movie of the same name. If a cleverly composed compelling soundtrack interests you then Imaginarium by Nightwish- The Score will provide a great deal of entertainment. The movie is based on a vision by Nightwish keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen and is set in a musical fantasy world. Filmed in Canada, Imaginarium tells of the imagination of an elderly dementia suffering composer, and apparently the members of Nightwish also appear in the movie.

The special edition of Imaginarium included a bonus disc on which were the instrumental versions of the main album's tracks, but while this release is also a take on those songs The Score is so much more than simply dropping the main vocals though there are still some. Those very tracks have now been crafted into something else even the song titles have been changed. Producer, composer and musician Pietri Alanko is the one behind the transformation of these numbers taking what Nightwish released and then making it into something fitting of a movie score that flows with the storyline. Some parts although altered are still recognizable plus given Nightwish's style of symphonic metal it must have helped to make the job easier for Pietri, if that is possible with this kind of challenging recording.

A word of warning though, don't expect to hear a new Nightwish style album of the symphonic power metal kind that you have become accustomed to. As this recording is not of that kind so approach the newest Nightwish release with an open mind and just enjoy the orchestration then that appeal will shine through, plus this version does still has it's powerful moments being quite the musical adventure ride. I am sure the majority of Nightwish fans will readily check out Imaginarium by Nightwish- The Score, and it will be very cool to see how Tuomas's vision has come together when viewing the movie.

Imaginarium was in the mix for my top ten releases of last year and Imaginarium by Nightwish -The Score is yet another impressive while different album under the Nightwish name.
