Anaal Nathrakh: Vanitas

Anaal Nathrakh seem to be one of those bands that most people love or hate due to their absolutely bizzare sound. For those of you who have never heard the UK duo's past albums, their sound is like a mash-up of black metal, grindcore and thrash as played by members of an insane asylum. Sounds messed up right? It is. The thing with Anaal Nathrakh however is that despite the insanity of their music, the music is devastatingly addictive.

Much like their previous effort Passion, the songs go by in a blur, yet despite the speed and horror that the music conveys one is drawn repeatedly back to the songs. The songs sound scarier than anything the most "evil" of black metal musicians have put out, yet like the best horror novels or movies, you keep needing to find out what's next. The result is a fully satisfying experience that is better than anything the band has put out to date, which is saying a lot as their back catalog is pretty damn stellar.

Vanitas is an excellent album that hopefully won't be overlooked with all of the rest of the stellar albums that have been released in 2012.
