Dödaren are a Swedish stoner rock band from the ever expanding Transubstans Records roster, and Maen is their brand new release of heavy rocking, guitar fueled music. It's all pretty impressive, with the emphasis on the guitar riffs and solos, plus there's a certain fat groove to many of these songs that gives it all an upbeat quality. The main problem for most non-Swedish listeners however will be the vocals, which are in their native tongue. If you can get past that, then tunes like "Guld", "Ågren Ner I Graven", "Träden (Skogens Konung)", and the epic 10-minute "Slutet" actually contain some pretty exciting musical passages and riffs that draw influences from classic Led Zeppelin, Rush, UFO, and Black Sabbath. Would love to hear these guys in the future with some English vocals added, as they show lots of promise.
