Sister Sin: Now and Forever

I'll be honest, I knew absolutely nothing about Sister Sin going in to this review of their latest CD Now and Forever, other than the fact that their label, Victory Records, has been pushing them quite a bit of late. Once I dove into Now and Forever, I realized that this band is somewhat of a departure for the label, whose roster includes no shortage of metalcore, deathcore, and emo friendly bands. You see, Sister Sin, who are led by the very capable vocalist Liv Jagrell, play a form of traditional metal that's not too far removed from acts like Warlock, Loudness, Judas Priest, and early Motley Crue. There are a host of '80s styled fist pumping & headbanging anthems here, like "Fight Song", "In It For Life", "End of the Line", and "Hang 'Em High", all featuring crunchy riffs and catchy choruses that are sung quite convincingly by Jagrell, who has a sort of 'pissed off' edge that comes across like a more aggressive Doro. Nothing here is overly original, but I don't think that was the bands intent, as they make no bones about having fun cranking out some '80s styled metal anthems for all those who can't get enough of that era. All I can say to that is job well done.
