Decline Of The I: Inhibition

Infamous for his involvement in such projects such as Vorkreist, Merrimack, Neo Inferno 262, Malhkebre, and many more, A.K. has put together another project, Decline Of The I. With the intention of releasing three albums that take on the subject of one's own freedom in the face of an existence that is at once indifferent and defeating, part one in the trilogy is this, Inhibition. Opening with a question that positions the subject at the centre of existence with all of the pain, suffering and torment of being raining down, A.K.'s philosophical excavation begins. His palette broad, A.K.'s portrayal of the hostile world is as avant-garde as much as it is black metal. A stark landscape, the depiction of the 'I's experiences is heavy and oppressive. As cold and as isolated as the antipodes of the earth and as dry and threatening as its deserts, the compositions are vast in scope, taking in synthetic atmospheres that corrode the mind, unremitting rhythms that batter the body, and tortured arpeggios and vicious riffs that tear at the flesh. Dramatic and eclectic, A.K.'s dynamic control and his strength in arrangement are remarkable as woven into the elaborate structures are such detailed nuances and subtleties that the trials of the flesh and the putrefaction of this mortal coil become tangible.

Inhibition is that kind of album that cannot be divided into its component parts; it must be consumed, ingested, endured as a whole, a unit, a journey through a coherent piece that prompts further questions, some of which A.K. will no doubt be taking up with the next part in the trilogy. While we wait for Rebellion and Escape (parts two and three, respectively), Inhibition leaves us with much to muse upon.
