Death metal can be (despite it's ugliness and penchant for shock value) a beautiful thing. Generally there are no real surprises and you know what you're going to get: growled vocals, blast beats, some solid grooves and some horrific lyrics to top things off. Granted, it's not the most original style of music, but damn is it refreshing to hear it sometimes.
Germany's Obscenity have been hoisting the death metal flag since 1989, and as such I'm kind of surprised I've never heard of them before. Atrophied in Anguish is the band's 8th full length overall and man is it ever solid. The band has a good chugging sound going that even will occasionally get into some traditional heavy metal sounds. (I'm looking at you "Perfect Pain")
If you like or hate deathcore and want some good old fashioned solid death metal then pick this one up. True, it doesn't reinvent the wheel but sometimes the best music doesn't have to. Really solid stuff and I look forward to hearing more of their back catalog soon.
