Scarlet Hollow: What If Never Was

On their website Melodic Revolution Records describe US band Scarlet Hollow as, "powerful, light and dark, ethereal, heavy, melodic music with an emphasis on the rock in progressive rock, respecting the listener's intelligence by performing and producing high quality music with thought provoking lyrics and sonic sophistication." It goes on to suggest that the band produces, "music that is subtle in its complexity, challenging yet easily digested, sophisticated yet unpretentious, beautiful and dark." You get the picture. One thing which Scarlet Hollow don't do is to go for the easy option, by which I mean there aren't any sing-song choruses herein just thoughtful, complex and generally grown-up music.

Led by vocalist Allison Vonbuelow, Scarlet Hollow's music is full of layered, challenging tunes which sometimes stretch out beyond the ten minute mark. This is music which demands attention rather than merely being on in the background. If you love Dream Theater or Porcupine Tree but with a female voice you will get much out of this one but you also need to set time aside to listen in all one go as this isn't easily digestible pop music – in the best possible sense.
