Solisia: UniverSeasons

It is no real surprise that there is an abundance of female fronted symphonic metal bands, as this is one popular genre that has seen continual growth since groups like Nightwish propelled it into the spotlight. This has made it progressively more difficult to keep up with them all, and also distinguish between some.

One band that is a new name to myself is Italian group Solisia who formed in 2006, and are now releasing their second full length Power/Symphonic Metal album. That new album UniverSeasons sure has its appeal and is somewhat heavy at times and also very catchy, together with great and versatile performances from Solisia's new vocalist Elie Syrelia this band are very capable performers playing engaging songs. UniverSeasons is a concept album with subject matter based on the condition of the human race.

Solisia's songs are more like those of such acts as Sirenia than Nightwish, not that they are copying either of those just their songs are more in that semi straightforward vein, than that dramatic and grand feel which Nightwish so often deliver. Solisia are more about delivering rocking tracks like "UniverSeasons" and "The Guns Fall Silent" with their powerful sound, and some lighter tracks along the way balancing out the metal this is very solid collection. "Symbiosis" is one song that has a great upbeat musical feel and makes you feel glad you got to experience this band.

While Solisia isn't the next big thing in this crowded genre (not yet anyway), they could be on their way with an album like UniverSeasons, which shows the band are able to create many excellent songs. Their new recording is a very nice addition for those many fans of their chosen style.
