Here's another archival video release from the folks at Gonzo Multimedia, this time featuring the late '60s/early '70s act The Move. Containing a wealth of German television clips of the band spanning the years 1968-1972, you get to see all musical phases of this influential group, who eventually split and morphed into the Electric Light Orchestra. Psychedelia, pop, and rock & roll were combined for a unique sound, and you can see through some of the later footage on tunes such as "Brontosaurus", "Down on the Bay", "The Words of Aaron", "Ella James", and "When Alice Comes Back to the Farm" that Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne were going to take their ideas of meshing rock, pop, psychedelia, and classical to another level in very short time. The early tunes from the '60s, "Blackberry Way", "Fire Brigade", and "Wild Tiger Woman", are more in the bubblegum pop vein and really show a band just starting to find their form, but overall this is a nice 40 minute overview of The Move doing some television appearances, giving a good cross reference of the styles they were dipping into. Video quality on the later clips is pretty decent, though the earlier black & white footage is a bit more rough, and the audio on all is quite good.
Fans of The Move will certainly want to check this out, although casual listeners might be a bit cautious as there is only 40 minutes of content here, but that is fairly normal of this series.
