Dirty Passion: In Wonderland

Another day, another Swedish band, this time mining a seam which reflects their heroes such as Y&T, Faster Pussycat, Beautiful Beast and…Poison! Recently I took a small amount of flack both here in the feedback section and also in my personal e-mails when I describe Kix as, "a mediocre Poison." Am I about to get more stick as a result of Dirty Passion? I suspect not as this is much better than anything Kix-related without being completely earth shattering.

In places it sounds like late 80s KISS crossed with Hanoi Rocks ("Sinner") but the band can do anthemic rock as in "Daughter of the Reaper" and guitarist Christopher Olsson adds some genuinely nifty fills throughout as well as some top quality concise soloing. "Make it Last" fulfils the statutory requirement for a big ballad and one can see the grainy black and white video with lighters held aloft so job done there. In Wonderland is about as subtle as the proverbial brick but by no means charmless.
