Svolk: Nights under the Round Table

If you are a fan of '70s Stoner music then the songs of Stoner rock/metal group Svolk may be just what you need to hear. The latest musical offering from the Norwegians is titled Nights Under the Round Table, and it's one style of release I can't say I have much experience with but I'm willing to give anything a go. But in writing that I was reminded of Black Sabbath whose early albums I've always been fond of, so maybe I am not in uncharted waters so to speak and it's just the term Stoner Music which is unfamiliar while its influences aren't so.

So after spending some time with the songs on Nights Under the Round Table I can't say I'm disappointed at all with what I heard. Nights Under the Round Table really is such a catchy collection, as Svolk have done an admirable job bringing together such a fun bunch of tunes. And what makes it so catchy? Well just like the mighty Black Sabbath it's those irresistible guitar riffs that draw you in so effortlessly and fuel this band like on a slower number like "Fallen" that picks up the pace as it goes. Svolk really impress with "Painbringer" as they come together and duplicate those very cool riffs on the drums and bass which combined sounds so good.

Nights Under the Round Table might be an unusual album title but there is nothing at all odd about what's on it, just enjoyable songs with ample variety.
