Lustre: They Awoke the Scent of Spring

Lustre`s They Awoke the Scent of Spring is a stunning black metal album. Although the band is Swedish, the sound draws much from early black metal and is inspired in part by Burzum's Filosofem. Those of you who have heard that album will know that the sound is cold and dark, yet full of beauty. Lustre is similar in that they take that sound as inspiration, yet make it their own without sounding like mere Burzum copycats.

Imagine for a moment a cold winter`s night with the stars clearly visible and snow on the ground. The freezing wind blows and ice is everywhere. "They Awoke the Scent of Spring" conjures those exact images and more during the albums duration. The album takes you on journeys through frost and snow and is quite frankly amazing. The vocals take a backseat to the atmosphere and the whole sound evokes strong feelings of longing and the beauty of the wilderness.

Anyone who is into black metal needs to check this album out as it is absolutely mezmerizing.
