Khors: Wisdom of Centuries

Wisdom of Centuries by Ukranian band Khors is a bit of an odd beast. Billed as black metal, it will probably infuriate purists as it contains not only black metal, but elements of rock and even shoegaze at times. Listening to the album at first was a jarring yet fascinating experience as the bands music is so compelling yet so beyond what black metal is `supposed` to be.

The band have a talent for taking their songs and bringing an element of tunefullness to them that is sorely lacking in most BM. That`s not to say that I don`t like primitive black metal, I do, but it is refreshing at times to hear a band that is willing to push the boundaries and not get stuck into genre classifications.

Right from the get go with "Black Forests Flaming Eyes" , Khors will suck you in and not let you go. The vocals are abrasive, yet fitting and the song creates a dream-like haze that is both sorrowful and horrifying at the same time. Beauty and ugly mixed together into one compelling package. And so it goes with the rest of the album, beautiful yet horrifying songs that will stick in your head and compel you to hit play again and again.

With Wisdom of the Centuries, Khors has created one of the best black metal albums of the year and should not be missed by anyone.
