Seremonia's strange brew has the distinct aroma of sixties psychedelic space rock. The flavours of Black Sabbath are topped with that of Cream and washed down with sips from the lunatic chalice of Magma. After breathing in the air of Rick Wright's early Pink Floyd swirling and effect-laden keyboard tinkles, we spiral up up up up up into the cosmic mindscape of hallucinogen heavens and faux spirituality. The Ginger Baker-style drumming is simplistic with crashing cymbals, tumbling toms and thunderous rolls; the fuzz-drenched blues-based riffs are catchy and driving; the bass pounds away in the low end and drives the rhythm, adding the occasional stroll into melodic territory; and the vocal melodies are akin to that of Clapton and Bruce. Blue Cheer, Coven and a host of prog and rock sounds combine into a trippy experience that is always compelling. On the first few listens, some of the riffs and vocal melodies appear flat and seem to deflate with every repetition. But it seems that Seremonia are aware of this as just as the track begins to bottom out, they launch into a psychedelic jam that shifts the mood back into the intoxicating.
