Soldierfield: Bury The Ones We Love

Bury The Ones We Love is a five track debut taster from new UK metal act Soldierfield, who can boast ex-members of Blaze, Kill II This, Paradise Lost and Rise To Addiction among their order. And what an introduction it is. Fusing the likes of Metallica and Megadeth to touches of Alice In Chains, and Days Of The New, this EP sets its stall out in mightily convincing fashion. Big riffs are the order of the day, but then, so are bristling melodies, slashing vocals and earth shattering grooves. This is a band who knows how to rock. But more impressively they have the ability and skill to do so without compromising on just how insistently memorable the likes of the punch and pummelling "The Path", or the Mustaine like grind, yet Layne Stayley styled vocal of "Leave You In The Dirt" remain. Add to that the neck snapping attack of "Bury The One We Love" and the more considered, if no less hard hitting "Feel Alive" and Soldierfield really have concocted a potent potion.

Proving that they have more than one string to their bow, "Skyflower" tames the beast, toning down on the metallic attack and leaving a song that lands convincingly between Queensryche and Days Of The New. Offering up a smart introspective counterpoint to its brasher EP mates as it does so.

As debut efforts go, this all too short sample of what Soldierfield are capable of is a mighty foundation on which to build. Talk of a full length release at the start of next year should have people across the world sitting up and taking notice. Until then these five songs should be receiving constant rotation by all discerning metalheads.
