Obsession: Order Of Chaos

Michael Vescera is a powerful and distinctive vocalist who I had previously heard first back in the '90s on two of guitar wizard Yngwie Malmsteen's releases The Seventh Sign and Magnum Opus and then with ex-Helloween and Masterplan co-founder guitarist Roland Grapow's very good solo release Kaleidoscope. I always enjoyed Micahael Vescera's style of vocals which added to the appeal of those recordings, but it was actually years before then with a band called Obsession that he launched his career.

The metal group Obsession came to be in 1982, and this review is of Order Of Chaos which is their latest and sixth release. You may be thinking that six releases isn't a lot in that time period, but then considering the band broke up in 1989 and then reformed 2004 it makes perfect sense.

Order Of Chaos doesn't only feature this prominent vocalist who from what I can tell is the sole remaining original member of Obsession, the line-up on this one includes a potent dual guitar onslaught that gets ample input and a hard driving bass player and drummer giving Obsession's music plenty of excitement and power. "Order Of Chaos" is also the title of a fine vigorous metal song that kicks off this release, but this is only a taste of that which is to follow, as this release will keep you coming back for more with gems like "When The Smoke Clears", "Act Of God" and "Dark Shadows".

With no ballads or lightweight numbers in sight Order Of Chaos is a heavy melodious metal release all the way overflowing with great vocals and music.
