AOR: Dreaming of L.A. / L.A. Reflection

At the risk of giving the impression that I haven't enjoyed the company of these two rereleases I have to place on record that these are two of the nicest, most polite albums I have ever come across. Everything about them is pristine and smooth and very, very well-mannered. If they were a television series, they'd be Downton Abbey. Frédéric Slama is/was the man behind AOR and he assembled a high quality group of musicians including Steve Overland from FM, Steve Lukather of Toto fame, Chicago's Bill Champlin, and Tommy Denander who appears to be on virtually every release in this genre at the moment and in 2003 made Dreaming of L.A. which is, despite the anachronistic use of saxophones genuinely lovely if highly soft in its use of rock. "Like an Open Book" is, for instance, the missing Belinda Carlisle hit that never was.

The previous year saw L.A. Reflection which hasn't quite stood the test of time as well but has many fine moments of supreme wimpdom and it is pleasing that Munich based Yesterrock are giving both a new lease of life with plenty of bonus tracks. I believe the phrase I'm looking for is Westcoast heaven.
