Elvenking: Era

Anyone who has heard Italian power/folk metal band Elvenking knows how good they are, and while their style has seen some changes over time Elvenking's new album Era maintains the quality they are known for. Elvenking's fondness for folk music is put into practice most effectively on the lighter "A Song For The People" and "The Time Of Your Life", while at other times they take that wonderful folk influence and without sacrificing their heaviness proceed to create a most inviting fusion of musical styles.

Elvenking are one of the more catchy bands, their songs are instantly digestible and not too taxing. "Through Wolf's Eyes" is a great example of this and like the opening track "The Loser" has one of the many memorable choruses to be found on Era. Elvenking are very much a metal band alternating that heaviness as they frequently do with a mixture of pace and clean vocals that are both distinctive and very appealing. Like that excellent horror series with a similar name I also really like track seven "Walking Dead" a lively metal tune that would make a great theme song for that very show.

It's great to hear they haven't dropped the folk influence in their music, as a band needs its own sound of which Elvenking has theirs, and it would be a mistake to take that away. I like all the Elvenking releases I have in my collection and Era is another good one, as there is more than enough impressive new material here to keep their fans entertained and eager for more.
