Winfaerer: Solar

Winfaerer, meaning "one who travels with the wind," is the brainchild of guitarist/bassist/vocalist Michael Gonçalves and along with comrades Benjamin Karas (violin) and JP Andrade (drums) the plan is to create, "a melodic, blasting and emotional entity with a folkloric edge." On the EP Solar this is a plan which is well-executed. It's not original but as a piece of Black metal it ticks all the boxes. It's atmospheric, pretty dark in places although leavened by Karas' violin and has a nice wide sound (another way of saying atmospheric I suppose.) I could live with the opening instrumental "The Mortal Flare" but the rest is above average for a tired genre especially the pretty epic "A Glimpse of Light" .
