Trepalium: H.N.P.

As someone who has been listening to metal in all its forms, there have been certain sub-genres that have never particularly appealed to me: Metalcore, Deathcore and Groove metal bands generally tend to make me shudder with horror. Of course there are always exceptions to the rule. But, generally speaking those genres make me cringe.

The reason I say that is because Trepalium fall squarely into the groove metal category. As such I will probably never listen to the album again. BUT objectively I can see fans of Pantera and Lamb of God lapping this stuff up. Thick grooves ala Vulgar Display of Power era will have fans of the genre banging their heads and pumping their fists while those of us not into this will just nod our heads respectfully. Surprisingly the band's cover of Pantera's "I'm Broken" works quite well with a faithful rendition of the metal classic. Hopefully the band can expand their fanbase with this album as they are clearly as good as any other band currently playing this style.
