After 20 years on the death metal scene, veteran act Immolation show no signs of slowing down. This little 5 song EP Providence is an apparent 'thank you' to their fans, delivering about 20 minutes of blistering, technical death metal in grand Immolation fashion. And, it's free, given out to fans on their late 2011 tour and also available on the Scion Audio Visual Website. As a follow-up to their excellent Majesty And Decay album, it fits right alongside that one, chock full of precision riffing, technical passages, and of course just plain immense brutality. The title track is absolutely pulverizing, and "Swallow the Fear" and "What They Bring" perfectly combines the bands technical nature with their juggernaut, extreme side. "Illumination" is, well, brutal, with lethal growls and insane drumming, and "Still Lost" is a wild speed fest complete with blazing riffs and furious blasting. All the normal elements of an Immolation album you say? Well of course! The band doesn't deviate from their tried and true formula here, and that's ok. No surprises, but none were needed, as Providence is a more than welcome tidbit to hold us over till the next full-length release.
