Poison Idea: The Fatal Erection Years (Pick Your King)

Poison Idea are arguably the total antithesis of everything that Sea of Tranquility stands for. They are/were about as subtle as the proverbial brick. Their songs are overwhelmingly short and about as complex as the two times table. They are, however, one of those bands whose influence way outweighs their sales and as such are pretty important. The tracks (forty-five of'em) were released in the early 1980s and unlike much output from back in the day sound relatively undated because the music is so raw and sounds like anybody could make in their garage.

Some of what we find here is unlistenable ("This Thing Called Progress") but equally some of it is pretty inspired and shows exactly why Southern Lord are giving a new generation the opportunity to see the roots of much low-fi guitar music of the last thirty years.

Poison Idea: The Fatal Erection Years (Pick Your King)
Posted by Eldon Hardenbrook on 2012-08-11 12:34:19
My Score:

Jerry A (the vocalist) has been a major inspiration to many of the NW greatest punk bands. He also inspired the way I sang in my own bands, along with a guy by the name of Peter Nelson, who was/is also an incredibly inspired and inspiring punk vocalist. In person Jerry is intelligent and funny, and is generally a really great human being. Poison Idea will always be one of my very favorite bands.
