ByZero: Zencore

Never has the term, Avant-garde, been such the correct way to describe a musical exploration. Hailing from Moscow, the Russian act, ByZero, have a new release entitled, Zencore, which pushes the boundaries of Prog, Free Form Jazz, Punk & Hardcore and anything else you can toss into the mix. This outfit uses bass guitar and drums as the driving force with spastic guitar fluttering about and keyboards and saxophone tossed in too.

Cool rhythms fill out tracks like "AM", with its eerie and highly Tony Levin/King Crimson Influenences shining through. ByZero uses a heavy blend of sounds and textures to carve out what is a very diverse and defiant sound. This is some very passionate filled music with extreme experimentation throughout. Zencore is a 14 track work of art that challenges the listeners musical restrictions and kicks down that 4th wall of imagination and takes you on a 67 minute carpet ride.

This record is not for the faint of heart and not to be listened to while eating! This is a wacky, fun and intriguing record by a bunch of very talented and wondrous musicians. Much of this record is ambient, but in a very brutal and destructive way. There is often utter madness coming from every nook and cranny of your speakers and at times it's almost scary! Noisy is a great way to describe this band, in a word. Interesting, is another.
