Sauce Boss: Live at the Green Parrot

I had the opportunity to review Sauce Boss' previous release before, so it was with renewed pleasure that I work on this live album.

The essence of the man's spirit that one could enjoy on his studio recording is kept intact and alive on this album. 13 songs almost hitting the hour mark of good ol' southern rocking blues await the listener. For those familiar with the music and the great heart of this artist, you really don't need any introduction here. Not only does he put up a good show, he's been helping the less fortunate folks by serving free meals all along the road. On this disc, Mr. Boss has cooked some high energy tunes where his bluesy guitar work always gets your feet tapping to the rhythm. This is good time rocking blues! I personally appreciated the frequent bottle neck sliding in the numerous solos he's doing on guitar or with a resonator. On the other hand I missed the acoustic tones he had on his studio release, but that's me you know, acoustic guitar player type of guy… Anyhow, this is a fun album where I was pleased to hear some great compositions such as the cool upbeat country bluesy "Lonesome Rider". No, I'm not a biker or even enjoy motorcycles, but I sure can get into the groove of this tune! I just love his slide playing! I could list a bunch of good tracks like the down and dirty blues opener "Killer Tone"; the rockier "Lucky Charm" and the closing country blues "Cathead Biscuit Gospel". Sauce Boss has also thrown in a couple of his gumbo tunes in the mix with a touch of humor.

For all of you blues and Sauce Boss' fan out there, this album's for you! Wish the man would come around here in the near future!
