So Is The Tongue: A Child Of Divorce

So is The Tongue a New Jersey based Post Rock, Progressive, Jazz, Technical Metal band offer up an album of unique structure that is rather intriguing as it courses its way from start to end. As albums go, A Child of Divorce is only short by today's standards, although this doesn't stop it from being convoluted and intriguing. I love the approach the band have taken as they delve into a musical world of fractured sound; as you listen there is just so much happening, sounds that capture the ear by surprise.

The melodies presented are fantastic but when the band steps outside the box they go all out to impress, offering starkness that is beguiling and slightly discordant, with more twists and turns than a rattle snake. The flow of the music isn't always easy on the ear, but that isn't a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination as it is still very rewarding experience.

The tracks are broken down in to two formats, Pt1, Pt 2 and Pt 3 are all instrumental interludes that create atmospherics whereas the other four pieces showcase the diverse and introspective talents of the bands.

Conflicting Stories one of the standout moments on the album, with is confused sound, is punctuated by some rather questioning lyrics and intriguing time changes, whereas Either Way offers up a beautiful soundstage as it mesmerises and pulls you into their world. As a trio though, they never stray too far from their addictive formulaic approach. People Don't Forget becomes a miss-mash of musical styles that works on so many different levels, but it's the album closer You're Nobody a culmination of all that has past and then some, a vitriolic and angst ridden number, a powerful statement that builds to an explosive climax that arrives in at just over thirteen minutes which leaves you under no illusions of the bands musical prowess, leaving you, the listener exhausted.

Track List:
1. P1.1
2. Conflicting Stories
3. Pt. 2
4. Either Way
5. People Don't Forget
6. Pt. 3
7. You're Nobody
