Black Light Burns:The Moment You Realize You're Going to Fall

Black Light Burns are best known, if they are known at all, for being the other band of Wes Borland from Nu Metallers Limp Bizkit. Five years after their debut and with a Limp Bizkit reunion in between, The Moment You Realize You're Going to Fall finally sees the light of day. I once had the fortune/misfortune of seeing Limp Bizkit live whereby a couple of thoughts occurred to me, namely that the guitarist was quite talented and was in the wrong band and secondly, that multi-millionaire lead singer Fred Durst was a complete tool endlessly talking about how awful his life was. So how does Borland work away from Durst in 2012?

The Moment You Realize… is by no means bad. It's by no means great but it is more than passable. It bounces between genres which can be somewhat jarring. Its part metal, part electronica and sometimes the two don't quite mesh together but when it does like on the hypnotic "The Girl in Black" or on "We Light Up" it's pretty effective. For such a talented player there's less guitar on the album than one might have expected but I'm sure Mr Borland makes records for himself and not for me. I can't say that it'll be in my favourites of 2012 but I can see why the young indie kids may go for this one.
