From the very beginning of "The Crucifier", Sweden's Crucified Barbara lay down a metaphorical marker that this, their third album, will be twelve tracks of unrelenting power – and that's pretty much what it is other than "Rules and Bones". Singer/guitarist Mia has a raspy voice which could possibly put some off but fits in nicely within the band's hard rocking tendencies. If she told me to "Shut Your Mouth" I imagine I would especially if she then unleashed the rather tasty, concise solo contained within the song.
This record probably passes for modernity in sleaze rock circles and on this evidence the genre is in fine fettle. I'm confident that rockers such as "Into the Fire" will work brilliantly live with masses raising their first to the chorus and I can confirm that the album holds together well in my headphones. If I were to make a slight criticism, it would be that by the end things get a little similar, more variation next time please.
