Mommyheads, The: Vulnerable Boy

When I noted that The Mommyheads PR bod used the word, "indie," a little part of me died inside as I really, really detest indie music with quite a passion. There's just something about the skinny-jeaned protagonists of the genre that totally irks me that and the way in which they pussyfoot around the guitar. Anyhow, that's not important right now as actually The Mommyheads are not actually overly indie and are in fact quite progressive with a little jazzy feel here and there and some clever lyrics such as this from "My Intruder";

My kids call him Daddy
My wife thinks he's cute
He's wearing my deathmask
And my Sunday suit
He knows all my secrets
What good are they for?

Yes, it's a bit of an angst-fest at times but there's a lot going on within Vulnerable Boy both in terms of ideas and music which drags it most certainly into the category of interesting at the very least. The band have a fair sized back catalogue which now seems much more worthwhile investigating than previously.
