Black Sabbath: Iron Man - The Best Of Black Sabbath

The songs pick themselves across this newly released compilation of Black Sabbath's most well known highlights from the original Ozzy-fronted era. With the band (or at least three-quarters of them) reforming and an album of brand new material in the pipeline this serves as little more than a stop-gap introduction for newcomers and those with only a passing interest in Birmingham's finest.

What is a little disappointing, and hence accounting for the 3 star review as opposed to what would have been an obligatory 5 star, is that there is nothing here whatsoever to entice collectors even down the complete absence of any liner notes or assorted memorabilia. This is a no frills package that offers the fourteen original songs and nothing else besides. There will no doubt be more attractive box sets and reissues further down the line so unless you absolutely have to everything that bears the name Black Sabbath this is perhaps not one to recommend. The songs, of course, sound as vital as ever with "War Pigs", "Iron Man" and "Black Sabbath" comprising the unholy trinity that lies at metals very foundations and paved the way for the next generation to follow.
