Prayer: Danger in the Dark

I have to say that the members of Prayer, namely Jukka Ihme - lead and rhythm guitar, Mika Pohjola - bass and keyboards, Matti Torro – drums, Tapani Tikkanen - lead and background vocals, rhythm guitar, percussion and Valtteri Tikkanen - rhythm guitar and keyboards, mean/meant nothing to me collectively or individually and I was totally unaware of their previous album Wrong Address which like Danger in the Dark is available from the industrious Escape Music label. Therefore I came to this one with an open mind but thought there was a chance this would stink to high heaven. Fortunately it doesn't.

It won't win many prizes for originality but it features some very decent 80s inflected AOR such as the decidedly tasty title track which could have featured on Europe's Final Countdown album if the keyboards were higher in the mix. The opening of "Nobody Loves You" with ints twin guitar sound belies the bittersweet nature of the lyric whilst "Another Fool" is another classy winner and with Tapani Tikkanen sounding like an upbeat Warren Zevon there is a very good melodic rock album to put on your to buy list if that's your bag.
