Embrional: Absolutely Anti-Human Behaviors

Another release coming out of the underworld of the Polish extreme music scene, the aptly titled Absolutely Anti-Human Behaviors is yet another example of how the Polish extreme metal scene definitely has become a force to be reckoned with.

Stylistically, the listener is treated to high speed brutal death metal with an air of chaos and an edge of evil. Fans of blastbeats should definitely be able to appreciate this album, as virtually every song is a blastfest showcasing more different types of blastbeats (because, yes, there are indeed different blasbeat techniques – and, if you do not believe me, then listen to this album). The sense of chaos mentioned above is somewhat of an illusion brought about by the flurry of different types of riffs (some are dissonant and others are outright aggressive and brutal) that each song includes, and, in reality, every song seems to be carefully structured around these different riff types.

The guitar solos constitute an interesting feature, as they are often melodic and thus stand in an interesting contrast with the brutality of the music itself. The guitar solos are also a tad technical, showing that these guys definitely know their ways around their guitars. In fact, all the tracks on this album are semi-technical, and the chaotic feel actually, and interestingly, owes to Embrional's ability as musicians to perform their music very precisely (being able to pull off this sort of music requires that it be performed by very skilled musicians).

However, intersecting the brutal death metal onslaught of tracks, we find more expressive instrumentals which feature other aesthetics than just brutality and mayhem. Thus 'Necropolis' is a darker and heavier affair, and 'Beyond the Abyss' is a dark but melodic clean-guitarred piece. And, these two instrumentals are very welcome, because they allow the listener to unwind and take a break from the brutal death metal adrenaline rush.

While probably not for the casual metal listener, Embrional's Absolutely Anti-Human Behaviors should, with its grinding brutality and technically advanced level definitely appeal to fans of brutal death metal who are on the lookout for another item of evil to add to their music collection.
