Sacred Blood: Alexandros

A power metal concept album about Alexander the Great. What could possibly be more fun than that? If you aren't in touch with your epic side, look away now for everything about Alexandros is in full on epic mode. The first human sound we hear on the Maidenesque "The Bold Prince of Macedonia" is a piercing scream from vocalist Epeios Focaeus who, alongside Polydeykis (rhythm and lead guitars, acoustic and 12 string classic guitars, keyboards) and Jim "The Animal" (drums) have produced a highly enjoyable if arguably insane album.

I know fans of power metal like to think in a scope which mere mortals can barely comprehend but fifteen tracks about Alexander the Great is stretching it a tad. The concept may be thing which slightly drags down the album because everything is in place; technically excellent and ridiculously speedy solos are in the mix, as are galloping bass lines, over-the-top vocals most certainly make an appearance. However, whilst as a whole Alexandros is more than fine, there isn't a stand out track which could entice the more casual listener in. Perhaps that will come on Sacred Blood's next album assuming they have got concept albums out of their system.
