Fates Warning: Inside Out (Expanded Edition)

Just in time for that magical erm, 18th anniversary comes a reissue of Fates Warning's 1994 opus Inside Out. This was the last FW album to feature Frank Aresti on guitar and bass player Joe DiBiase. It comes with extra tracks and also with a DVD which wasn't available for review purposes.

Time hasn't improved the awful cover but equally neither has it diminished the overall quality of the music. Arguably more mainstream than their contemporaries Inside Out isn't perfect but it is one of the more neglected gems in the FW canon.

The highlights remain "Pale Fire", "The Strand", "Monument", and "Afterglow", but assuming that many already know the record, should we be looking to shell out for the extra tracks? Well, assuming the price is nice there's certainly plenty of stuff although whether anyone would want three versions of "Outside Looking In" is questionable.

It certainly appears that Metal Blade have put some care into this product and it may well appeal to diehard fans as well as newcomers to the band.
