Inverloch: Dusk… Subside

Featuring two members of disEMBOWELMENT, Inverloch's debut three track, 22 minute EP, Dusk… Subside, is more like a mini LP in that its aesthetic scope is as wide and far-reaching as any release twice its length. The two minute intro of 'Within Frozen Beauty' grows from silence to give way to a monster of a track that is as crushing as it is bleak, its dense atmospherics near-tangible as the dynamic shifts between the raging, the doom-trodden and the lugubrious before the eerie, almost-silent ghosts that opened the piece return the track to its slumber in silence. 'The Mein Road' is doom par excellence, the leaden guitars hanging in the sullen air as the drums and gruesome vocals decorate the dark ambience with subtle shades. Following a long, broody opening, 'Shadows Of The Flame' shifts the EP into the land of the vicious. The despair that underpins the first two tracks here manifests itself as pure hostility with the guitars and drums savagely tearing at the air for its first attack. Withdrawing to a darkly tranquil corner, the wrathful beast again rears its ugly head for another savage strike before finally returning to its vantage point to rest, its menacing stare fixed as it recedes into silence. Haunting, menacing, atmospheric and devastating, all that these three tracks do is leave you wanting more.
