The Undivine: Delusional Noise

I always look forward to the ways bands describe themselves on their websites. There are so many bands out there these days vying for our attention that it seems almost impossible to gain listeners without saying something extreme, unusual, blasphemous, or otherwise offensive. It seems like everybody is striving to be eclectic, outrageous, and unorthodox at the same time. Sometimes these unusual blends work and sometimes they don't. For my money, The Undivine's claim that their music "hits you in the face with a sonic machete" certainly wins the prize for the most memorable description I've heard. I had to laugh because of its outrageousness. What is a sound machete, anyway? A weapon that cuts through the thickets of bad music? I can't say, but I can honestly say that I wish I had one from time to time.

This much I can tell you--Delusional Noise is a very cool album, one that listeners will certainly enjoy. It packs a punch, one that does hit hard and doesn't let up until the end of the album. Maybe it really is a sonic machete! I really enjoyed listening to Delusional Noise especially because of its occasional unconventional beats (listen to "Satelite Monarchy," for example) and its aggressive and speedy grooves and riffs. Most of the tracks on this album are extremely heavy and make the most of the power chord. I didn't think that the vocals were as engaging as the rest of the band. To me, this is unfortunate since this band really has something going for it. These guys are really tight and sometimes fall into grooves that are infectious.
