Royal Thunder: CVI

Royal Thunder's debut album CVI is a smoking slab of 70s style metal. While retro metal has become a bit of a fad lately with seemingly every couple of bands worshiping at the feet of Sabbath and Zeppelin, only a few such as The Devil's Blood have been able to pull it off as successfully as Royal Thunder.

Right from the get go with opening song "Parsonz Cruse" the band exudes old-school authenticity: Lead singer Minny Parsonz screeching like a female version of Robert Plant while the rest of band lay on the smoking riffs. If you felt letdown by The Devil's Blood latest album and thought they had gone a bit too proggy, then CVI will be your dream come true.

This year has seen some absolutely stunning metal releases and CVI ranks right up there with some of the best. If you're at all fond of well played old-school metal you won't be disappointed. Check out the band's live performance of the song "Sleeping Witch" below, and then go and pick the album up when it drops on May 22.
