Bible of the Devil: For the Love of Thugs and Fools
Sometimes one can get easily fooled by the blurb which accompanies albums these days. Bible of the Devil apparently play, "classic, loud, hook-filled guitar rock, yet with their own modern interpretation." On this album they have, "sought to emphasize their trademark bludgeoning two-guitar attack and mammoth hooks with an increased attention to soaring, anthemic vocals." I was expecting some seriously raucous stuff which would leap into my brain and rip my ears out. What I actually got is not quite what I was expecting but is more than fine if not earth shattering.
In places it's as if the NWOBHM never went away and there are hints of Thin Lizzy here (always a good thing) and there and whilst you spend time with the album it is all good. The problem lies when you've left it; certainly in my case, I couldn't remember much about it thereafter but I definitely enjoyed it whilst I was listening to it. Perhaps it is just me but unfortunately For the Love of Thugs and Fools didn't quite have the songs to lift it out of mediocrity.
