Carmen Gray are/were a totally new name to me and are in fact a group rather than a woman. They're from Finland where they have been bothering the charts recently. They play inoffensive pop music which is pretty enjoyable without ever threatening to change the world. Pleasant tunes abound from the key triumvirate of "Rose", "It's Only Love" and "Love Story Town" down to the extremely catchy "Real Punks (Plastic Smile.)" Gates of Loneliness offers ten acoustic-based tunes which could appeal to Radio 2 listeners here in the UK, the said stereotyping a whole demographic, such is the terrifying niceness of everything on offer.
The band's bio uses Guns 'n' Roses and David Bowie as touchstones and to be brutally honest that is just utterly ridiculous on both counts. Both those artists were at times genuinely threatening or in Bowie's case one of the most important artists of all time due to his persona-changing antics. Carmen Gray are neither but they are nice enough so that your mother would like them and they've had the guts to put it out on their own record label after a less than positive experience elsewhere.
