General Surgery: A Collection Of Depravation

Carcass clones General Surgery see the release of old material through Relapse records. A collection of all of their out of print singles, vinyl-only EPs, demos and a bunch of other tracks that may otherwise have disappeared from the ugly face of the earth, such a release does beg the question, is this band still together? Having formed in 1988 and then taking a break between 1991 and 2003, their first full length, Left Hand Pathology, appeared in 2006 and their second (and most recent), Corpus In Extremis: Analysing Necrocriticism, appeared in 2009, you'd think that General Surgery would be concentrating on getting some new material out there rather than rehashing their past. With a three year gap between their two full-lengths, we're about due some new material - if they're still functioning as a unit, that is. Either way, this makes for an interesting listen as the change/evolution in the band's sound through the line-up changes can be plotted. As it stands, this is more for ardent fans of General Surgery seeking to flesh out their collection of depravity…
