'Forgive me father, for I have sinned….' A chilling spoken word intro to 'Death-Chain' is quickly followed by an extreme stab of metal to the eye sockets, this is heavy stuff. Death Metal has so many sub genres now I just cannot keep up, however all I know is that Lay Down Rotten's eighth offering is a great addition to my ever increasing collection. Jost Kleinert's vocals are raw throat ripping endeavors that spit blood from the speakers and command you cease and pay attention. Matched with furious drumming, solid riffing with interspersions of solo's Mask Of Malice is already pushing the right Death Metal buttons. Like the short sharp shock of a bullet fuelled execution the tracks pummel along with tremendous pace leaving you in a daze of Metal confusion, title track 'Mask Of Malice' is a carpet bombing of riffs making way for some twisted solo's. Produced with all the precision you would expect from a German band this is a monster of an album, polished slick production ensures you feel every instrument powering between your ears. Lay Down Rotten are not going to ignite the world of metal in a fury of flame but will ensure that it will remain burning brightly for many years to come.
